Methi Malai Paneer: Restaurant-Style Recipe

The bitterness of methi, the succulence of paneer and the royal creaminess of malai has come together to treat you with an awesome subzi which is on the top list of most of the Indian restaurants. Try this amazing methi malai paneer at home and feel like royal.

Ingredients required to make methi malai paneer 

  • Methi leaves (chopped) - 1 ¼ cups
  • Paneer cubes - 1 ¼ cups
  • Oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Cinnamon stick - 1 small
  • Elaichi - 1
  • Clove - 1
  • Bay leaf - 1
  • Haldi - ¼ tsp
  • Chilli powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Coriander powder - ½ teaspoon
  • Milk - ½ cup
  • Sugar - ½ teaspoon
  • Fresh cream - ¼ cup
  • Garam masala - ½ teaspoon

For the paste

  • Oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Cumin seeds - ½ teaspoon
  • Chopped onions - ¾ cup
  • Ginger (chopped) - 2 teaspoon
  • Garlic (chopped) - 1 ½ tablespoon
  • Green chillies (chopped) - 1 tablespoon
  • Tomatoes (chopped) - ½ cup
  • Cashewnuts (chopped) - 2 tablespoon

The process to make Methi malai paneer

For the paste

1) Take a non-stick pan and heat the oil. Add cumin seeds and saute for few seconds on medium flame.

2) Then add onions, garlic, ginger and green chillies. Saute them for around 2 minutes on medium flame.

3) Then add cashew nuts and tomatoes. Mix well and continue to cook for 2 more minutes. Then leave it aside to cool down.

4) Then blend into the smooth paste using 2 tablespoons of water.

Final process

1) In a non-stick kadhai heat the oil, then add cardamom, cinnamon, bay leaf, clove and saute them for a few seconds on medium flame.

2) Then add methi leaves and saute for a minute more.

3) Then add chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder and water (2 tablespoons) and continue to saute for few seconds.

4) Time to add the prepared paste. Give a good mix and cook for 3-4 minutes more. Stir occasionally.

5) Then add paneer and give a gentle mix.

6) Cook for a minute and add garam masala and fresh cream and further cook for a minute.

7) Methi malai paneer is ready. Serve with grated paneer.
